last night was amazing.
Our women's choir festival didn't bomb. Although we had to rehearse for hours, and hours without stopping, and were mad at the lack of incentive to perform well, it was completely worth it. Morris Knolls had the honor of hosting the first annual 'festival'. Morris Hills performed, Morris Knolls performed, and we had the opportunity to host the University of Delaware University singers. These ladies deserve a standing ovation for sure.
Oh. My. God.
Can i just say that they exceeded my expectations by far and were completely phenomenal? i could not believe my ears while listening to them perform their seven pieces for the audience, most of which were a cappella. I was floored. You could definitely hear the complexity of the well written songs, and they had the emotion to match. Performing with them was a joy, and it only makes me want to continue in my musical education; in hopes of one day reaching this level of excellence.
Professor Richter, the choral director of the University singers, was an amazing vocal coach. Her experience was evident in the amount of passion and technique she put into teaching us. we sang an incredibly fragile 'There Is Sweet Music', and a lively and energetic spiritual, 'Praise His Holy Name'.
This spiritual piece is some of the most fun i've had singing in quite some time. It was very easy to get into, and utter joy consumes you as you just forget everything but the song. The audience really enjoyed this ending song; we even got to perform an encore.
I hope to continue my choral instruction with Semancik, and beyond. I will one day perform at this level. What a good way to end the week.
