Mascots?

So today is Easter, and I was doing some thinking at church today. All of our little holidays have creepy mascots that small children are told to believe in. This is all that popped into my head: Christmas, a time for the birth of Jesus, is associated with a fat old man that sneaks into your house at night, eats your cookies, and leaves presents. This man is also befriended by little elf things that slave all year round making these toys. Children waiting their turn to take pictures at the mall have it all figured out; no wonder so many of them are so afraid of going up there. It does not sound like a fun thing to do.
Then we have St. Patrick's Day. We are supposed to believe that little elf-like LEPRECHAUNS are coming up to pinch you if you don't wear green? Who came up with these things? They don't sound appealing or nice whatsoever.
Finally, there is Easter, another religious holiday meant to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Kind of a big deal right? I just think that it is really weird to associate this with life-sized bunny rabbits that come and leave 'chocolate.' Then the awkward people dressed up in the mascot costumes for mall pictures. It amuses me, that all children at some point believe in these things. And that looking back, you realize what a creeper the person that came up with each of these must have been.
I had too much time on my hands this morning :]
